Virtual Tasting with Rebel Rebel: Beer, Wine, and Social Justice
June 23 @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm
As Pride Month begins and the Black Lives Matter movement expands across our country, we’re taking a closer look at how power, race, and gender/sexuality play out in the beer world. We invited our friends at Rebel Rebel to join in this conversation, knowing that they’re experts in the politics of the wine world.
Join us for a *special* Tuesday tasting where Margot of Rebel Rebel and Gabby of Lamplighter ask some hard questions, including: what can the India Pale Ale reveal to us about colonialism? How is making natural wine an inherently feminist practice? Who was making the beer in early America? And why do the fields of craft beer and wine remain such white and wealthy spaces? By looking into the diverse histories of beer and wine, we hope to learn how to promote equity in our fields in the present.
Your ticket includes a can of our protest-oriented pale ale, Act Up, and a bottle of Jessica, our farmhouse ale fermented with a locally-cultivated yeast—a beer wine lovers are sure to enjoy. $10 of your ticket will also be donated to the Boston Ujima Project, a Black-led organization that utilizes an investment fund, consumer and business organizing, and a democratic citizen-led decision process to build a Boston that works for all of its citizens.
Pickups for this tasting will take place on Monday and Tuesday, June 22nd and 23rd—we ask that you stop by Rebel and Lamp to pick up the beer and the wine separately, because we live in Massachusetts, after all.
