Brewery Book Club

January 5 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

You’re invited to our January brewery book club, where Lamplighter and the Cambridge Public Library team up to highlight contemporary works from marginalized voices while having a beer. Our January book club will be held virtually – the virtual meeting link will be sent out to all registered attendees the day of the meeting.

This month, we’ll read Transcendent Kingdom by Yaa Gyasi. Transcendent Kingdom follows Gifty, a sixth-year PhD student in neuroscience who was raised in a deeply religious family. She is studying how to adjust behaviors by triggering neurons in the brain through experiments with mice. Gifty is determined to discover the scientific basis for the suffering she sees all around her. Transcendent Kingdom is a deeply moving exploration into faith, science, the African immigrant experience, family dynamics, addiction and depression.

We’ll gather virtually on January 5 from 7 – 8:30 pm, to discuss this read, what we learned from it, what we found ourselves touched by, and all other thoughts.

How it works: Register (for free) to join us, then pick up a copy of the book at your local library or favorite bookstore.
